Rasnov Fortress

Rasnov Fortification is one of the best preserved fortresses in Transylvania. The fortress was built, according to the 18th century wooden springs, with the help of the Teutonic Knights, but the stone buildings are a bit newer, dating from the 14th century. The fortress is strategically located and had as main purpose the control of the entrances to Transylvania and the defense against the Tatar attacks.

The material for the fortifications was represented by stone and brick, with the help of which 5 meters high walls were built. Inside, you can visit several tourist attractions such as the museum of feudal art where you can see weapons, antique furniture, specific hulls and unusual objects today, such as torture tables and special yokes for transporting prisoners.

The fortress has an outer enclosure that is located near the eastern wall and is bordered by a square tower and a fortified wall.
